About Us

Gethsemane Christian Discipleship Church ("GCDC") and its vision began on Sunday, February 18, 2008, when Art discussed with his wife, Jamile, his mother, Verdell, and his daughters, Diamond and Destinee, God’s calling for him to birth a church.

On Thursday, June 26, 2008, after prayer and God’s direction, Art filed GCDC’s Articles of Incorporation with the Ohio Secretary of State.  On Thursday, August 7, 2008, after receiving Pastor Floyd Smith, Jr.’s blessing from his home church of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Art and his family left Calvary to birth GCDC.  On Sunday, September 7, 2008, GCDC took its first breath at its first Worship Service at the former Clarion/Ramada Hotel. 15 people joined that Sunday and God set GCDC in Kingdom Motion!

Our Mission is to “Make Kingdom Building Christian Disciples” and our Vision is “Living The Great Commandment And Great Commission.” Through God’s divine blessing and favor, we seek to develop Disciples through a focus on the 5 Stones according to 1 Samuel 17:40. Our 5 Stones are Spiritual Maturity, Emotional Health, Financial Wisdom, Physical Fitness, and Relational Connection. Through our Foundation of the Kingdom, Worship Services, Youth Church, Discipleship Training, Fellowships, Community Outreach, and activities and events, we strengthen each disciple in a loving and caring CommUnity. Our Discovery Journey Classes also help disciples discover their Identity-In-Christ, Authentic Unique Self, and Purpose and Calling to help each person live the fullest life possible in God.

We have awesome leaders, disciples, and other individuals and organizations that support the work of the ministry in love and dedication to God for His Service.  We have been blessed to participate in community outreach activities, such as Women’s Ministry Back To School Events, Mud Hens Concessions Volunteering, Block Watch Participation, Wolf Creek YMCA Youth Go Hard Program, Healing Care Group, Community Prayer Walks, ministering to the Fairview Nursing Home Guests, Rock the Block Community Clean Up with Maumee Habitat for Humanity, and Tent City.  We’ve also supported the Daughter’s Project against Human Trafficking, the Gideons International Ministry, Good Sense Financial Stewardship Training, Financial Peace University and other efforts and other worthy causes.

Our TV Ministry has grown over the last 12 years through being on Buckeye BroadBand Channel 69 on Fridays from 7 pm - 8 pm and Saturdays from 11 am – 11:30 am.  Our impact on families and children has increased by focusing on loving God’s People through transparency, honesty, and humility.

Our 20+ acre campus called “The Hill” located at 4263 Hill Avenue purchased in 2013 will bless God’s Kingdom and the Toledo Community. The Hill is based upon John 6:3NLT – “3Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him.” We will Go where God says Go and Do what God says Do walking as Jesus did (1 John 2:6), Loving God and Our Neighbors, and Living our Motto – Keep It Movin’ – No Limits!
